I’m getting serious about paying of all of my debt, and thinking about ways to supplement my income to do so. Any SERIOUS ways to earn decent money on nights/weekends?

time is a consideration, have a wife and three young kids.

Valet if there are any fancy restaurants nearby. I still do that every once and a while when the company that I have worked for in the past offers. It’s hit or miss depending on the area, but I always walk with at least $200 on a Friday night 5-midnight.

The age and door number restrictions cut many Oppos(such as me) out of this one :(

Bartending/Bar backing. Hourly rate and credit card tips on your check and cash tips on top of that. I do it on the weekends and it breaks up the monotony of working at an office all week.

I’d totally Uber the FR-Slow if I could be guaranteed to pick up just one passenger or a normal size passenger and up to two child-sized humans.

I did this with my MKZ and uber black made great money for the amount of work you have to do. However I did not do it regularly and it was mostly just to see what it was like to be an uber driver

There’s a specific 4-door requirement as well as a newer-than-2000 requirement, which makes both of my vehicles ineligible. One has enough doors, both are too old

I’ve always thought it’d be fun to Uber in something like a Chevy SS or CTS-V Wagon.

I taught at a for profit(I know, I know, but they seemed pretty good for what it was) college. I really liked it. Pay was okay. Time demand varied depending on the term, number of classes, etc.

It was laid back with smaller class sizes. I taught some of the higher level program specific classes so the students were actually pretty good and interested, but that was not the case in the gen ed type classes. I believe an advanced degree is required and getting your foot in the door can be tricky depending on the school.

I quit because my wife wanted to be able to work a job that is only nights and i didn’t think it was fair to our daughter for both of us to work nights.

But if I were given the chance, I’d jump at teaching again, especially at a public college or university.

National Guard. E1s get about avg 270ish a month (year/12 because there’s 2 week field every year and you get active duty pay for that. Monthly drill pay will be less) You get enough healthcare to not need to buy your own (not 100% sure how that works for the family). Plus during basic and AIT you’ll get payed full active duty pay. So you’ll come back with quite a bit in your bank account.

But you can come in as a higher rank if you have college hours, Eagle scout, or can pass the PT test right off the bat (they might have gotten rid of that recently though). Plus if you have any outstanding debts the Army can pay/settle it (even non student loan debt, that gets payed under a different program) http://www.militaryonesource.mil/moving?content_id=267394

I’m sure their’s someone here who’s guard/reserve who can tell you more. I’m active, but seriously considering it.

I work nights and weekends (usually 3-4 days a week) at Petsmart. It doesn’t pay a whole lot, but it’s one of the easiest retail jobs I’ve ever had. And since I have four dogs the 15% discount comes in handy. What I make monthly pretty much covers my student loans .

Is there a Wegmans nearby? You can work there on the weekends and bring home a solid amount. Starting pay above $10 and every Sunday is time and a half. Weekly pay as well. Bring home an extra $150 a week for 2 shifts.

I’m a physics teacher, so I do private tutoring and make $50-$100/hr. Without even telling anyone I offer private tutoring, I usually tutor at least one student once a week for at least an hour (enough to pay for tires).

Last fall I delievered groceries for Instacart. I was in NYC so I did it by foot but if you’re in a normal city you can do it in your car. You could also be a shopper, taking orders and shopping around the grocery store for other people.

+1 on the National Guard. Not only will you earn money serving, but you will get some debts paid off AND you get a helluva good amount of training that can be directly translated into civilian employment. Not to mention it is a huge boost to your resume.

They have weird requirements. A base Corolla L is fine but not my S40 R-Design with its pearl black paint and black leather interior.

I can think of a couple situations where this is not necessarily true.

1. Sometimes night and weekend work that’s different can actually be nice if for whatever reason you need a little break from what you do.

2. If your current employer knew you were searching it would put you on their bad side. I’ve known a couple of people whose bosses find out that they’re searching and it seems to sour the relationship a little.

True but kids change the 2nd job math pretty quickly. While your second point is true to an extent, employers often take advantage of those who don’t “shop around.”

Dress yourself and the kids up in ratty clothes, then sit on a street corner panhandling.

Donate plasma.

Donate...other things...

Steal things from the office and sell them on eBay.

Honestly, long term the best way to supplement your income is to be good at what you do and to cheerfully do the work everyone else bitches about. If you want to do something on the side it needs to be something you are good at, and that skill takes time and money to develop.

In college I had a few part time jobs, but I also did freelance work. Mainly architectural drafting, but also a little cabinetry and computer building (I went to engineering school.) Those are skills I learned from my father (an architect and general handyman,) or the work I did (IT in high school and tech support in college.) Basically, a side job will not yield as much for the time you put into it unless you already have a skill that could be a regular job (a hobby might be a good starting place.)

No one here trades? I would like to get into it, but start with a practice account and see how I do before going full in. Though I guess you need to have money to spend to be able to trade in the first place.

I mean there are cases like that where the rules backfire a little(nice late-90s luxury cars) but I can understand why they might not want my E36 Compact or second gen 4Runner doing rides for them, 4Runner just isn’t that safe of a vehicle and the E36 isn’t practical and also isn’t really all that safe by modern standards.

That doesn’t make any sense.

Nice car though, I used to have a 2004.5(very first model year post-facelift). It was just a 2.4i with an auto but even with that it was pretty fun to drive. Great on the highway too. If I found the right t5 with a stick it could make a pretty nice daily driver

I tried doing this, and discovered I’m not very good at it. To do it really well you need to invest quite a bit of time, to the point that I found it interfering with my normal job. And even then, after all the time invested and research, sometimes you can lose out.

Now, I still invest, but I don’t trade.

Good advice. I was looking at trading currency, practice account of course. Its fun, just hard to get a feel for how it would work with real money as there are so many variables.
